A Brief History of Baron Von Steuben

Baron Von Steuben played a crucial role in the military success of the American Revolution.Baron Von Steuben was born on October 17, 1730, in Magdburg Prussia, to a military family.

Baron Von Steuben entered the Prussian army at the age of sixteen. He served till the end of the Seven Years war rising to the rank as captain. For a time he was attached to the general staff of Fredrick the Great.

With his striking number of qualities rare among the insurgent-his high professional reputation, forceful Prussian bearing and colorful personality, Steuben had a gallivant effect on the downhearted, disorganized army and immediately became on of General George Washington's most valuable and trusted officers. Winning appointment as an Inspector General and a mandate to train the army as an efficient fighting machine. All this despite the fact that Steuben spoke no English and obliged to work through interpreters.
