Mission Statement
The mission of Von Steuben Metropolitan Science Center is to provide a demanding and stimulating college preparatory curriculum to the school's diverse student body, utilizing challenging teaching methods and state of the art technological equipment in all areas of study, with an emphasis placed on the areas of science and mathematics. Fundamental to the school's mission is maintaining a safe and secure learning environment that encourages continued development of each student's confidence, self-esteem, recognition of the similarities we share and the acceptance of our differences, while simultaneously stimulating a life long love of learning, effective problem solving, and service to the community.
An Outstanding American High School
In the January, 1999 issue of U.S. News and World Report, Von Steuben Metropolitan Science Center was one of the 96 high schools across the entire country that received recognition as being an outstanding American high school.
In June of 2003, Von Steuben was the only Chicago Public High School to be rated Excellent in Newsweek's America's Best High Schools, with one of the strongest Advanced Placement programs in the country.
